The king of family cars is back. Volkswagen have outdone themselves with the ID.3, a fully electric hatchback that reaches impossibly high levels of comfort without cutting down on performance. In all its models, this five-door family car goes from standstill to 62 mph in less than eight seconds. And with a maximum speed of 99mph, you’ll have no problems cruising on the motorway when required.
The first model in the German company’s new electric ID series, this refined hatchback has drawn comparisons with classics like the Golf or the Beetle. It’s definitely every bit as functional as them — just slicker and greener. In its 58kWh model, the ID.3 can go up to 260 miles before needing to charge up, with the 77kWh version covering 338 miles. Even better, it’ll only take you 35 minutes at a 100kW public charger to get the battery up to 80%.
Wider than its petrol predecessors, Volkswagen’s new EV provides plenty of leg room even when sitting five people. With the rear seats upright, the ID.3 has a boot capacity of 852 litres. This can go up to an astonishing 1,601 litres if you fold both rear seats, making it the perfect vehicle for families in need of some extra space.
Tired of fidgeting with clumsy sat-navs and unresponsive controls? Fortunately, that will never happen with this highly intelligent car. The highlight of its minimalistic cabin is a highly responsive 10-inch touchscreen that allows for seamless integration with smartphone devices. And if you’d much rather use voice control, the car’s ID Light assistant is there for you. It will give you accurate directions and allow you to change your car setup on the move whilst you keep your eyes on the road.
